Welcome to another post in the Confessions series. You’ll notice I’m going with realistic writer rather than imperfect. I think realistic has a more positive connotation. Last week was much better than the previous week. I was able to write more, but I didn’t accomplish all of my goals.
I didn’t write as often as I had planned and I didn’t keep track of how much time I spent writing. Things are improving, but I still have some work to do!
Confessions of a Realistic Writer
Summary of My Week
I didn’t write every day, but I did write most days. Unlike the previous week, where I didn’t feel accomplished even on the day I wrote, last week I felt like I got something done every day I was able to write. Some days I was able to write more than others, but all of my writing sessions were fairly short. Even so, it was a good week of writing. I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to, but I’m happy with how the week turned out. What I was able to accomplish made the week a success. What I wasn’t able to accomplish allows me to see where I can still improve. I’m a realistic writer!
My biggest goal was to track my writing time. And I didn’t do that. Not even once. I made the goal, but I didn’t really plan it out. Every time I use my phone’s stopwatch it refreshes the next day so I haven’t been able to use my phone. And I didn’t look into anything else, so I never kept track of my time. Although I wrote most days, there were a few days I didn’t write.
I LOVE my critique group! We are taking turns so that only one person shares and every one else critiques. This way we can share longer pieces at a time. I shared my writing this week and it’s exciting to get feedback on chapter 1. It’s been a while since I’ve shared my writing with anyone other than my mom!
I’ve done a light revision of the first three chapters, and I’m really going through chapter 1. It’s amazing how much I’ve been able to accomplish by writing consistently, even if for a short amount of time.
Thoughts and Goals
I’ve felt very excited and motivated this week. A little discouraged with myself for not writing every day. I’m trying so hard to write more consistently and it’s been hard on the days I fall up short. But, looking back on the week as a whole, I am really happy with how well I did.
This week, my goal is going to be to write Monday through Friday. I think I wrote 3 or 4 days this week, so adding one or two more is a good, gradual increase towards my goal of writing every day.
I’m also serious about tracking my time this week. I’m going to create an excel sheet or find an online program where I can track my time.
How was your writing week? What did you accomplish? Where can you improve? What goals will you set?
Thanks for joining me on my journey showing the world what it looks like to be a realistic writer.
Until next time,
