Welcome to another post in the Realistic Writer Confessions series. Thing’s are definitely looking up for me. Each week I seem to be writing more! That doesn’t mean I’m not having my share of struggles though. Because a perfect week wouldn’t be realistic.
I accomplished my goals most days last week, but not every day. There is still room for improvement!
Confessions of a Realistic Writer
Summary of My Week
I wrote every day last week! I reached my goal of writing for 15 minutes a day, and some days I even wrote for 30 minutes. Most days, I was able to write in the morning, which is my favorite time to write. There were a few days though when I pushed it off and almost lost the opportunity. But I made the goal to write, and I really had the drive to be successful last week. I even did a decent job tracking my writing time. I may have forgotten to update my time a day or two, but I tracked it most days. Definite progress.
Last week was a pretty good week, so I don’t have much to complain about. I wish I had done a better job tracking my writing time. I use a simple excel sheet, but maybe I need to look into different methods to record my time. I got a lot of feedback from my critique group, so I spent a lot of time revising my first chapter and didn’t make as much progress furthering the story. But my first chapter has never looked so good!
My biggest accomplishment is definitely the consistency with which I am writing. I am so proud of myself for writing every day. I’m also really glad I was able to track my writing time most days. It encouraged me to write so I’d have more time to add to my record. It also helps me see that even though my word count isn’t increasing much (with all my revision, some days it decreases!), I still have a record of the effort I am spending on my writing.
I’m also very happy to be part of such a great critique group. It’s another reason why I’m writing more consistently. And it’s helping my writing improve. My critique partners are providing me with feedback that helps me improve issues I otherwise might not see. A fresh set of eyes on my WIP has been such a huge help!
Thoughts and Goals
This week, I’ve been thinking about how helpful it has been to have a little bit of accountability. Although my critique group will understand if I have nothing to share, it’s helpful that I can be accountable to them. These weekly posts are also keeping me accountable and focused on what I want to achieve with my writing life.
This week, I’m excited and sad to announce that my goal for the week is to do research. I’m sad I won’t be doing any writing this week, but a break from my WIP will be refreshing and helpful. And I’ll still be working on it, just in a different way. Besides, I get to research horses and that’s something that has always fascinated me! I’ve always wanted to own a horse, and I still hope to someday.
Until next time,
